What's for Dinner? (redux)

What's for Dinner... er... Breakfast? ~ Harpo's Bizarre-style

(Kids, do not try this at home... unless you have strange tastes, too... and your parents are not around to stop you.)

I have both instant oatmeal and instant grits packets in my cupboard. The other day, I wondered what it would taste like to use a packet of each in my breakfastary repast. Well, this morning was as good a day to try this out as any.

I also added a good amount of 100% maple syrup (none of that fake "maple-flavoured" junk). (If you are trying this at home, Robbie,
Lyle's Golden Syrup would work nicely, too. [I actually have a can of this in my cupboards, too, but felt my initial attempt should be with maple syrup.])

All in all, not a bad idea. The oatmeal flavour mostly overtook the corn flavour, but the grits texture overtook the oatmeal mush, too. I figure I got my daily fiber intake all in one meal now. (Is there a Daily Value of Maple Syrup?!)
I don't like maple syrup real or fake but my husband always buys bourbon barrel aged maple syrup and loves it.

Whoa! That is some mighty pricey (but I am sure verrrry tasty) maple syrup!

"Bourbon... from Vermont?! Git a rope!"

Oh-ho-ho! They also offer a Maple Bourbon!

Oh I buy the $9.99 size bottle to give away. They used to come in barrel shaped bottles.

I recently "discovered" the benefits of cottage cheese. It has twice the amount of DV% of Protein than most good yoghurts do. Cottage cheese does not have a whole lotta flavour, but I have taken to adding everything from a good maple syrup (for a sweet breakfast snack) and salsas of all sorts (for a more savoury dinner meal).

Tonight I added some Casa Sanchez ~ Taqueria Style Avocado Salsa (not to be confused with an avocado guacamole; this is a lot creamier-based) to a good heaping amount of cottage cheese. It really was pretty d*rn tasty. I also used it as a dip with two different chips/crackers (Stonefire ~ Sea Salt Naan Crisps and PopCorners ~ Sea Salt [popcorn chips]); this really made the meal for me.

(Not sure if Casa Sanchez products are available nationwide. I am pretty sure they can be found throughout Callie-for-nee-ya, though. Any ither similar avocado salsa would do, or even real guacamole.)

This sounds delicious, soxtrot. My favourite would be the Homemade Mac and Cheese.

I know I woulda filled up on the roasted Brussels sprouts and Mac 'n' Cheese! (But, of course, saved enough room for a slice each... or two... of the homemade pies! I am such a pie-a-holic... I might need to go to a local PA meeting one of these days.)

@Ylla

I have a major bone to pick with that Yller-character. (Well, more like a "slice o' pie" to pick.)

For Thanksgiving dinner desert, I made sure to pick me up (as in the
italiano phrase "tirami su") a small box (2 slices) of 𝓔𝓭𝔀𝓪𝓻𝓭𝓼® ~ Key Lime Pie. I have been eating pies (and slices) from this company for several years now under the recommendation of said "Yller-character". It contains "NO HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP" (which it proudly states on the outside of the small box), which is a very good thing... however... the two slices are rather small and probably equate to just one largish slice, anyway. I was going to eat both slices on Thanksgiving, but ended up just eating one and eating the other slice this afternoon as a snack (with a truly great cuppa Kenya AA Coffee).

Now, here is my major complaint/concern. Each slice (not the two slices combined, have you) contains 27g Added Sugars, which is 53% of the Daily Value. 53%! If I had both (small) slices on Thanksgiving day/afternoon, that is over 100% DV! (Well, using Common Core Math, that is.) I probably wouldn't have been able to have anything with sugar in it the rest of this weekend!

Sadly, as much sugar as that ridiculously contains, I know I will continue to buy it often in the future. Their Turtle Crème Pie is also really good. At least this flavour only includes 41% Added Sugar DV per slice...

Probably best to eat the pie in small servings. Good to have the coffee with the pie as it would cut the sweetness. That is a lot of sugar in those pies.

I don't bake, but if I ever made my own pies or cakes, I know I would cut the suggested amount of sugar in half (or cut it out entirely). There is never any reason for something to be so sweet.

This is mainly for SoxTrot3, but anyone else that likes good flavoured seltzer water (with zero added sugars of any kind) please follow along.

I came across a new(-ish) flavour of Polar Seltzer (supposably it is new this year) that I had not tried yet. I picked up an 8-pack while grocery shopping this morning and just opened a can with dinner. This is another great flavour for me. I always love cranberry-anything and
clementines are one of my favourite orange cultivars. Plus, the whole Cranberry-Clementine thing is pretty seasonally appropriate.

Hoo-boy! I really need to locate their newest Winter 2025 Limited Edition. It only comes in a 12-pack, but I am okay with that. This new one includes: Brown Sugar
Clementine, Dance of the Plum Fairy, Blackberry Snowflake, Spiced Pear Cider, and Blood Orange Cranberry. All of those flavours sound right up my taste-alley (which usually is a dark and scary backroad dead-end).
