Yes. Go online, look things up, inform yourself, but if you aren't placing a lot of stock in what experts say, you aren't actually "doing your own research". No, you are not as smart as a doctor. If you want to learn how to change your own oil, yes, watch a youtube video, but ultimately if you can ask a mechanic, that is the best way to learn.
