Are there just two more days of Spring Training games? If so, both the RED SOX and Los Gigantes have very good shots at winning their respective Leagues (for what that is worth).

Four more games each... the Red Sox can seal victory in the Mayor's Cup today though if we beat the Twins :D

Campbell getting the start at 2B with the first team lineup... have to think he makes opening day at this point.

This can go so many different ways. I'll just wait and see who is announced as the final roster after this coming weekend.

Honestly I think the hype over Campbell has outstripped what he's actually done. Even last year in AAA for that short period was misleading. He had an insane first 3 games going 7/15 with a 2B, 2 HRs and 9 RBI. He then hit .208/.364/.340 over the next 15 games. I really think he could use at least a solid month in AAA to start the year, maybe a little more.

True... although he was still ripping the ball in those other 15 games, just no longer finding gaps. At no point did he look lost or like they'd figured him out at all.

But yes 18 games good or bad doesn't really tell much. More time in AAA certainly wouldn't hurt... but as I said yesterday, they may see him as the most likely PPI guy.

Maybe, but they aren't getting that if he doesn't play well.

Overall I would have liked to see a little more focus on roster management this past winter. Someone like Romy Gonzalez is a "nice to have around" type player when you don't have better prospects on the horizon looking for a chance to break in. But he's also decent enough that you don't want to just DFA him and get nothing for him. Although as I write that the Sox basically got him that was after he was DFAed by the White Sox, so if he is let go to clear a spot for Campbell, who clearly has more upside, then it's not the worst decision to make.

yeah i was kind of surprised everyone was ready to anoint him an opening day starter before ST even started because he really hasn't even done any AAA yet, and with the roster as "crunched" as it is, i have no problem letting him go down to AAA to start the season. i think he'll be knocking on the door after 50-60 games down there

I watched the game last night on NESN and Lou Merloni is so totally unaware of the limitations of the 40-man roster. He went on and on about at least 4 or 5 guys who aren’t on it and who he thinks have a shot at making the team.
