  • Quote of the Day - "I keep myself amused and others confused" ~ Benedict Cumberbatch

As a juxtaposition, here is some little-known female singer covering "Carmelita".

And last one (for now... )

This
EweToobular video is a special one for me. The guy that posted it, Skip Way, is a dear old friend of mine. He has had ALS (aka Lou Gehrig's Disease) for the past twenty-plus years now, and making these videos is one of the pastimes that he is still able to do. He usually incorporates original photographic artwork of his sister's into his own colourful creations and historical photos.

Additional Warren the Z songs sung by Miss Ronstadt:

“Hasten Down the Wind” (which Linda even saw fit to name the album that included this song; some guy named Don Henley sings harmony vocals with her on this song; personally, I think the guy needs to stick to just playin’ the drums…) and “Mohammed’s Radio” (on her “Living in the USA” album).

Linda even sang backup on a few of Warren’s own songs.

It's funny, I only serendipitously stumbled upon Skip's video just now when I was looking for a good live version of Linda singing "Poor Poor Pitiful Me". I am sure that I watched it four years ago when Skip first posted it, too.

I know I have posted songs of Amythyst Kiah's here before. I just love her music. I have no idea why she is not more well known (outside of the Tennersee and South area). She also plays the banjo. It is not an instrument you generally see a female (and especially a black woman) play.

This is a truly great Americana song. (And Jackson Browne did not steal this song from the Iggles. He started the song and then co-wrote it with Glenn Frey. I actually prefer Jackson Browne's original version over the Iggles one.) David Lindley even played electric guitar on the original Jackson Browne released song.

Not many people really know of the music of Joan Armatrading. I love her deep, throaty voice. This song is probably in my All-Time Top Ten Favourite Songs of All Time. I always get chills when I listen to this song.

What the h*ck... here is another one from Miss Armatrading.

'cause it is just one of those kinda Saturdays... here is Sir George Ivan dueting with some Welshman named Thomas Jones Woodward (who also seems to have been given the honorific of Sir and the Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire... looks like someone could not rate as CBE/Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire... ).

Wait… let me get this straight… Lola is a dude?!

But the Champagne still tasted like Coca-Cola®, right?

I think I mention this every year... but one of my favourite and most underrated Christmas songs is 'Thank God it's Christmas' by Queen.

There's a Danish tribute act who did a pretty damn good cover of it...

Now, I am about as ungodly a person as they come, but I really enjoy the music of Burlap to Cashmere. If you don't listen too closely to the lyrics and just groove on the music, you would never know that they were considered a "contemporary Christian Rock-and/or-Roll band".

My brother (even more ungodly than me) knew the lead singer/songwriter from his college days at Marymount Manhattan College. Steven Delopoulos was a grade or two behind my brother at that school in the early 90's.

I have seen them perform live twice now in San Francisco. Their following is pretty much Christian Rock-based.

This is one of my more favourite songs of theirs.

Okay, last one for the night (and this one is just a little Jesus-y). I really like the guitar work in this one.

This is just a cool Acapulco version of an old Jimmy Cliff (I always thought he was from Jamaica, not Acapulco, though) song:

Just a little Swedish Zydeco music for a Saturday morning...

(I have only seen Daniel Norgren perform live one time. It was several years ago at on of the local [and free!]Hardly Strictly
Bluegrass festivals in Golden Gate Park.

The funny think about this song [other than being sung in English by a guy from Sweden] is that
Black Vultures are indigenous to the Americas. There are none in Europe.)
