The All-New Ice Cream Thread

  • Quote of the Day - "I keep myself amused and others confused" ~ Benedict Cumberbatch

I forgot to add this on Thursday.

I had two (large) scoops from Salt & Straw's Monthly Series menu. One scoop of Jack o' Lantern
Pumpkin Bread and a scoop of Essence of Ghost. They were both good, but I liked the Jack o' the best.

Glad you enjoyed it, Harpo. The Essence of Ghost has a good combination - the dark chocolate ice cream sounds delicious. My pick of this group would be the Great Candycopia.

The Essence of Ghost also has a heavy amount of black licorice in it. I am not really a fan of black licorice, but it all turned out nicely with the other flavour combinations in it.

The right up about Essence of Ghost didn't mention black licorice being in the ingredients. Just said scotch infused sherbet and dark chocolate ice cream, unless that was something extra.

I don't like black licorice either. I prefer red licorice. Used to eat that when I was a kid.

Yes, I know. They were trying to slide the black licorice by without anyone noticing. It is a strong flavour in the Ice Cream, but the Scotch Sherbet makes up for it.

Well, I went back to Salt & Straw to try the other two Hallowe'enie Specials that I could eat.

Scoop of The Great Candycopia and a scoop of Double Bubble Toil and Trouble (v). They were both good, but of the two, The Great Candycopia was my favourite for the day. It was the Salted
Butterscotch that got me.

Salted Butterscotch sounds like heaven.

I told the manager of my local shop (we actually have two in town) that he needs to contact the Corporate Mucky-Mucks and have them add Salted Butterscotch to their standard/everyday menu. It would be a HUGE seller.

Just a (pretty large) scoop of Vanilla Mango-Tango (Tangerine) from Double Rainbow.

It's been almost a full month with no new Ice Cream posts!

Well, the temperature broke 50° today here (it reached a high of 51°), so it was warm enough to get me a scoop of
Pumpkin at a neighbourhood Ice Cream joint.

I was thinking about getting a different "Seasonal" flavour of Egg Nog, but will have to remember to get that another time.

It "warmed-up" to about 57° this afternoon here. So, I made sure to prove a point that it is never too cold for Ice Cream.

There is a nice Ice Cream shop in my neighbourhood that carries several different flavours and brands of Ice Cream. So, I got two scoops:
Ube (from Mitchell's) and Soy Cinnamon Churro (from Double Rainbow*).

The
Ube one was really good (I have had that flavour many, many, many times). The soy one was just okay, but a little soy forward for my tastes; I did like that they seemed to have little Churro bits throughout the Ice Cream.

(They do not actually show the Soy Cinnamon Churro on their web-site, but you get the idea.)

*(Does anyone else think it is very cool that there are the exact number of letters in "Rainbow" as there are c
olours** in a rainbow spectrum?)
**(Ditto coolness for the word "colours", if you spell it British-like!)

Oh, and coincidentally enough, I happened to be wearing my "Olde Skool" Patriots cap (the one with Pat Patriot in the 3-Point stance). The two guys working the counter at the Ice Cream shop happened to be from Watertown, Massachusetts. I had completely forgotten that I was even wearing a Patriots cap until one of the guys asked me if I was from Boston. I told them I was from a little town called Medway (the one in Massachusetts, not the one in Kent, England). Of course, they had never heard of it before...
