I hope they’re not that stupid. He addresses none of the deficiencies the 2023 team had next year. The goal is to improve the team, not sign a splashy name.

Sure, that seems likely but the Sox also don’t need another lefty hitting OFer either. He just doesn’t add anything to the Sox they aren’t already getting elsewhere. I want them to be better in 2024. Ohtani doesn’t make them better. I know that’s an odd comment about such a talented player but it’s about the overall team.

Not really a rumor because its just people speculating, but Bleacher Report had a trade proposal of Jarren Duran and Nick Yorke for Corbin Burnes.

For some context... Burnes is in his final arb year and expected to earn around $15m next season before being a free agent.

Yeah, they had one the day before of Duran and Abreu for Shane Bieber too. With all the starters on the free agent market I can’t see the Sox first move to be trading for a starter a year or two away from being free agents, especially not guys who have shown some decline in recent years.

Honestly for the off-season moves of the Sox could land Yamamoto and Jordan Montgomery for the rotation, trade Duran and Nick Yorke to the Cubs for Nico Hoerner, and bring back Justin Turner in the role he was in this past year I’d call that a great off-season and take that team into 2024 happily.

Hopefully nil. He doesn't add anything the team needs, and I absolutely do not subscribe to the notion that you sign someone like that and then "fix" the rest of the lineup around them. If he doesn't fit don't go after him. In this case, he doesn't fit.

BTW, the same goes for Soto.
