Well now that Yamamoto is a Dodgers, time for the rumors to fly. 12/325 seems like an offer the Red Sox could/would have made. But we'll hear that the Sox were cheap and didn't offer that much, or they did and Yamamoto just wouldn't come here... and did the Red Sox offer 350??? We'll never know I guess. I'm guessing the Red Sox were close to or maybe even more than that offer but Yamamoto wanted to play with Ohtani where he felt he had a chance to win.
In which case the Red Sox may be forced to "sleep in the bed they've made" where they have become a middle market team, with two last place finishes in a row, and massive turnover in the front office, that isn't taken seriously by players that want to win even when the Red Sox offer the same or slightly more money.
There are still lots of pieces out there to get two #2 type pitchers for next year, and with Ohtani and Yama buried in the NLW, there is no reason to believe the Red Sox cannot compete for a playoff spot next year IF they go get two of the big names still out there. either sign two, or sign 1 and trade for 1. But those prospects to work.
