So given where the roster sits here on Groundhog Day, here's an attempt at what the Opening Day roster might be for the Sox barring any late additions:
1B | Triston Casas |
2B | Vaughn Grissom |
3B | Rafael Devers |
SS | Trevor Story |
LF | Jarren Duran |
CF | Tyler O'Neill |
RF | Wilyer Abreu |
C | Connor Wong |
DH | Masataka Yoshida |
| |
SP | Lucas Giolito |
SP | Brayan Bello |
SP | Kutter Crawford |
SP | Nick Pivetta |
SP | Garrett Whitlock |
| |
CL | Kenley Jansen |
BP | Chris Martin |
BP | Tanner Houck |
BP | Brennan Bernardino |
BP | Josh Winckowski |
BP | John Schreiber |
BP | Isaiah Campbell |
BP | Justin Slaten |
| |
C | Reese McGuire |
OF | Rob Refsnyder |
IF | Pablo Reyes |
IF/OF | Romy Gonzalez/Cedanne Rafaela |
Looking at this one thing that jumps out at me is the lack of left handed pitching. Only one pitcher on that entire roster is a lefty, Bernardino. Make me wish the team could work out a deal with Miami for Jesus Luzardo, maybe a package of Crawford, Dalbec and Yorke could get it done? Probably wishful thinking on my part, but a left handed starter to put in with the other 4 right handed ones would look a lot better. Of course if Slaten doesn't work out (he's a rule 5 pick we acquired in a trade with the Mets, so subject to rule 5 limitations) that opens another pen spot likely for Chris Murphy.
