Just over a couple of weeks until opening day, I thought I'd get this started for the year. Everyone is welcome to take part.

A quick rundown of the rules:
- Each week you must pick one pitcher, one hitter and a team.
- You are not allowed to pick from the same team for your picks. So for instance, you can't pick Rafael Devers and the Red Sox in the same week.
- You can only select each pick once for the season. This will be tracked in your own personal threads in the sub forum.
- You can change your picks up until the first game they are scheduled to play in.
- If your pick gets injured, you are not allowed to replace them.
- Any rescheduled games will count towards the week they move to, and not for the originally scheduled week.
- If you miss a week, you will be allocated a score five points lower than the lowest scoring player of that week
- Any invalid picks will be either voided, or if the possibility still remains you can select a different pick. Failing this, you will be assigned a suitable player/team for the week

Each pick will score points:
- Your pitcher will score 1 point per strikeout.
- Your hitter will score 1 point per total bases, walks, HBP.
- Your team will score 3 points per win.

Extra points for 2024!
- Your pitcher will get 3 points for pitching 6+ innings and 2 earned runs or less
- Your pitcher will get 10 extra points for throwing a no hitter and 20 extra points for a perfect game
- Your hitter will get 1 point per stolen base.
- Your hitter will get 10 extra points for hitting for the cycle
- Your team will get an extra 3 points for a three game series sweep and 4 extra points for a four game series sweep.

Extra options:
- You have two PowerPicks to use, which will double the score of that pick. You only get two for the whole season, and you must use one before the allstar break and one after.
- New for 2024! - You have two substitutions you can use at any time. This means you can replace any of your choices at any time, but the new choice must still fit with the other rules. You also can't have a substitute choice play the same day as the player they are being subbed for. There are no other limits for substitutions. For example, you can make two subs in the same week or substitute your pitcher out even after he has made two starts.

Any other questions, let me know!

I'll get the picks thread for week 1 up in the next few days, but I thought I'd give you a quick heads up about some of the changes. I'm hopeful that the scoring should be a bit more varied now.

- If you miss a week, you will be allocated a score five points lower than the lowest scoring player of that week Harpo.

Shortened that sentence for you.

Regarding substitutions, does the score of the original player prior to him being substituted count?

Example: Raffy hits a home turn Monday for 4 points. On Monday Casas has a single.

On Tuesday Raffy goes on the IL. I substitute Casas before Tuesday nights game. Casas hits a double on Tuesday.

After Tuesday is my score

6: Raffy HR + Casas double.
3:Casas single + Casas double
Or 2: Casas double. We only start counting on Tuesday for the first game he played for me

?

Also you said substitutions can happen “at any time” so I do not need a reason for it? Or can you only substitute if a player is for sure not going to play because he’s gone on the IL?

I'm in Phil. Probably take the Sox when they have a short week in September. This could be a long season

You get the points of the player you originally pick up until you substitute him. So in that example you'd get 6 points, because you'd get Raffy's points for Monday and Casas points for Tuesday.

...and yes you can use it at any time, at any point of the week.. but you do only get 2 so you need to be wise with them. I see them as a bit of an injury replacement option more than anything. You don't need an actual reason though.

i see substituting as a "cure" for being Rodonized. Although you have to be careful. If you get Rodonized don't go pick Spencer Strider if he's only making 1 more start that week. So you need to take some mediocre pitcher you weren't going to use anyway for a 2 start week. So you are probably only talking about getting 5~6 points whereas swapping out an injured hitter is probably going to get you more points than that if its early in the week.........

Them's a lotta new ideas to keep track of. I got a headache just reading all the new rules. But I am still in like Flynn (that would be Boston Mayor Ray Flynn, of course).

How do you pronounce Rodonized? His name is Roe-don. But Roe-don-ized does not roll off the tongue well. So I say Roe-done-ized

What say you?

I go with the "Roe-dón-ized" variant.

Oh and I have mentioned this in the chat, but it's worth putting it here too. The Dodgers-Padres series next week in Korea won't be part of our pick3. We'll start as normal with the rest of baseball on March 28th. We'll do our usual 'long' first week so it'll run from Thursday March 28th until Sunday April 7th.

Besides, no one really cares 'bout no D*dgers-Padrones Series.
