The Cape Cod Baseball League (CCBL) has had a long tradition of being a gateway for College students to make it to "the Show".

As of the 2017 MLB Season, there were 303 CCBL alumni in the Major Leagues. (They have not posted what the numbers are for 2018 and 2019 yet.)

In case you were wondering just who might have entered MLB after a Summer stint on the Cape, do the names Chris Sale, Jackie Bradley Jr, or Joe Kelly mean anything to a true blue red-blooded RED SOX Fan... okay, maybe not that "Killer Kelly" guy any longer, but still...

If you ever find yourself "stuck" on the Cape from the months of June to August, make sure to check out a game or two. You never know whom you might see playing then and later in MLB. Plus, the games are free...

This is a little (unproven) scientific fact: the MLB Team with the most CCBL alumni on it will win the World Series.

Actually, in the past 8-of-10 World Series, this has proven to be true.

For the 2019 World Series 40-Man Rosters:

Houstown Astroboys

little Georgie Springer ~ Wareham Gatemen, 2009-2010

Joe Biagini ~ Brewster Whitecaps, 2011

Will Harris ~ Yarmouth-Dennis RED SOX, 2004

Colin McHugh Wareham Gatemen, 2007

Wade MileyWareham Gatemen, 2007

Total CCBL alumni = 5 Players

Washingtown Nats

Sean Doolittle ~ Harwich Mariners, 2005

Erick FeddeYarmouth-Dennis RED SOX, 2013

Daniel Hudson ~ Harwich Mariners, 2007

Yan GomesCotuit Kettleers/Chatham (A's) Anglers, 2007/2008

Andrew StevensonYarmouth-Dennis RED SOX, 2014

Total CCBL alumni = 5 Players

In the case of a tie (as is this year's), I go with the team that has the most Wareham Gatemen alumni (it is my mother's hometown CCBL team).

So, you read it here first and foremost scientifically:

Your
2019 World Series Champions will be the Houstown Astroboys!

You can not argue with Science!

Well, you could, but no one likes to be called "President Trump".

(This seemed like a good-enough time to resurrect this thread.)

In the 2012 college offseason, Kyle Schwarber played for the
Wareham Gatemen of the Cape Cod Baseball League (CCBL). After winning the league championship with the Gatemen, Schwarber was awarded the playoff's Most Valuable Player award. In June 2019, it was announced that he would join the Cape Cod Baseball League Hall of Fame class of 2019.

I have been saying this for years. The number of Players that make it to the Majors after a Summer or two in the Cape Cod Baseball League is truly extensive these days. They are all competing against the best of College Baseball.

I just looked at my 2011 Wareham Gatemen book. It looks like I had gotten Rob Refsnyder's autograph that year, too.

Also on the same team that year were
Brent Suter and Max Muncy (I think he used to play MLB up until 2016. I wonder what ever happened to him.).

Travis Bazzana was selected #1 in the 2024 MLB Draft by the Cleveland Guardians. He played for the Falmouth Commodores of the Cape Cod Baseball League in 2023, where he was named the MVP after hitting .375/.456/.581 with six home runs and 31 RBIs.

With their first 2024 Draft Pick (#12 overall), the Boston RED SOX selected Outfielder (and Relief Pitcher?) Braden Montgomery.
In both 2022 & 2023, Braden played collegiate summer baseball for the
Yarmouth–Dennis RED SOX (how à propos) of the Cape Cod Baseball League.
