Ignoring the obvious ones who are essentially barred for 'other' reasons... this ballot looks like a 'Hall of very good' one.

Adrian Beltre is a lock. Helton looks like he should get in too... otherwise... meh

Wagner has a shot. He's only got 2 years left on the ballot though so he has to continue to get support. But as some of the "old school" media members who bristle at the "value" of a closer fade away and are replaced by voting members with more of a clue he's got a chance.

Never understood how some players don’t get in on the first ballot but get in on later ballots. It’s not like their stats have changed during retirement.

That's another one of the stupidity things about the HOF balloting, where some of the crusty old school guys created some sort of extra significance of getting elected the player's first time on the ballot.

I do understand how a player can possibly take more than one year on the ballot to be voted in only because the HOF also puts an arbitrary limit on the number of players you can vote for in a given year, which is also dumb. Not sure what 10 was the magic limit of votes. Most years there aren't 10 candidates really worthy of votes, but even so why limit someone. If someone theoretically wanted to vote for everyone on the ballot, why not let them? A player still needs to be on 75% or more of all ballots cast to make it in, so let the people voting select whoever they want.

Early on in his career, Andruw Jones looked like he was on the right track for a lock for the HoF. However, his entire career just turned out to be "Very Good" only.

I heard a caller into one of the talk shows on MLB Network Radio last week make a great suggestion for how to "fix" the HOF voting, particularly with the nonsense about "first ballot" stuff. Change the voting and require the voters to vote for everyone on the ballot every year, with a straight Yes or No vote, and that's the only year those players will appear on the ballot. You're required to vote Yes or No for every player. No 10 player limit that you can vote for, no carry over from one year to the next. You can leave the same needing 75% of the ballots in favor for getting in, but it does away with the drawn out slog some players go through now, and the nonsense some voters perpetuate with the "I think X is a HOF player but he did something I didn't agree with so I'm going to make him wait a few years before I vote for him" stuff.

Also some of the sports writers who vote really need to get over themselves. The outsized egos considering themselves some sacred gatekeepers of the game is annoying.

Joe Mauer used to do a shampoo commercial. The caption was "well played, Mauer".
